There is often a debate online as to which one between the two is a better operating system; Apple’s Mac or Microsoft’s Windows. The conclusion of the argument can never be reached because it all depends on user’s needs and requirements. Thereby there are two sections of users divided on the use of OS, one those who use Windows and the other who use Mac. But I personally believe that there are some major causes to switch from Mac to Windows environment. Though this blog of mine does not intend to divert users mind for not using Mac, I am sure that at the end users would themselves opt to go for Windows OS.
Why Say Good Bye to Mac OS?
1. The main reason of leaving Apple’s
Mac lays in the fact that Windows has much to offer in terms of desktop email
clients. MS Windows furnishes many different in-built, user-friendly mail
clients depending on its version as well as several third party mail clients such
as Mozilla’s Thunderbird, etc.; have also been developed that supports this famous
brand OS environment.
2. The other reason being the
difficulty in using Mac OS that requires, actually technical expertise to be
able to exploit all of its features in correct manner. This is because the
interface of the Mac is not that easy for normal home users. Also the
professionals need to have got trained so as to be able to operate the
operating system well to avoid any delay in office work.
3. The other major reason being the
vast difference in the characteristics of the most utilized mail clients on the
two platforms though they are developed by the leading pioneer ‘Microsoft’ of
the IT industry.
- MS Outlook that creates PST files and Windows Live Mail that stores data items in EML files being on one side that are compatible on Windows whereas
- ‘Outlook 2011’ that has been particularly designed and developed for Apple’s Mac
Though there are several other reasons, the above
described are few of the many major causes to switch from Mac to Windows
environment for personal and official purpose. These are the factors that
many of the Mac users might have faced and would definitely want to migrate to
Windows OS and its compatible mail client most probably MS Outlook, WLM and

Pre-migration Preparation into Windows
I was all set to move to Windows 7 and its associated mail
client, Outlook. Therefore I took the back up of all my Mac data items in an
external hard drive. But the problem was with the Outlook Mac data that would
obviously not open in Outlook for Windows. Worried about the issue as I did not
want to lose my Outlook 2011 data, I made an online search where I came across
a tool that promised to serve the purpose of exporting Mac Outlook data into
PST format. The only requirement was to have Outlook installed which I had
already done. The software application also assured to export the Outlook for
Mac data into EML format that is usable on Windows WLM mail client. With this I
was all set to switch from Mac to Windows environment without concern.
Making Outlook Mac Data Suitable For Windows Platform
- The Outlook Mac Exporter is the tool that I found which is Windows-based and exports OLM files into PST and EML file type;
- So the first step was to save the Outlook Mac data stored in Archive folder as .olm file
- Secondly, transferring the OLM file into Windows machine by loading the file in any pen drive.

license and executed the program with its self explanatory interface, at the
end of which I got an option to save the file in three formats PST, EML and
MSG.

- For users who prefer WLM mail client in their Windows system can save the exported file as EML.
